Orphanage volunteer - Location

The orphanage is located in a beautiful village called Sundarijal about 1 hour away from the center of Kathmandu by bus.
It is surrounded by rice fields and there is a big football ground about 5 minutes away from the orphanage by foot.
The orphanage by the founder of TCN with the help of donations and private people who came there to visit or volunteer. There are living on the whole 46 children, 27 girls and 19 boys who painted pictures, did handicrafts and decorated their home with them. They had also the facility to produce paper during the vacations, to sell it and make little bit money.
Unfortunately the whole house was destroyed during the earthquakes on 25.04.2015 and 26.04.2015, which was the strongest since 1934.
Luckily only one child was little bit injured and they could nearly rebuild the orphanage until now.

About the project

The 46 orphans remain in the orphanage year-round where they can enjoy a safe and secure environment with food and housing.
Some of them don't have parents and others are there because their family can't offer the school fee and so they have no possibility to learn something. By living in our orphanage they have the chance to visit a good school and besides learn additional activities like taekwondo, dancing etc. If they have good grades, they will be further supported for college and university.

Volunteer Work and Contribution

This project is designed to bring support and education to the children of the orphanage. Now we need especially volunteers who help with construction work, but you can also help with normal things which the children need everyday, like teaching, helping with the homework or cooking.

A typical day: On the whole your schedule can be flexible, but you should be prepared to volunteer about 6 hours a day beginning at about 6.30 in the morning (the kids get up at 5.30am). During the day you will help with cooking, homework, construction work, work on the field.. You can decide yourself which tasks you want to do during the day and look where help is needed the most.

Additionally, when relevant, volunteers are able to take part in the cultural festivities occurring in the area.

Daily tasks in the orphanage:

-         play with the children
-         help with cooking
-         help cleaning the house and washing the clothes
-         do homework with the children and teach them English
